Today I am due to receive my first copy of Petrels night and day. It’s a very exciting moment, a milestone for me and the culmination of a huge amount of work by the Sound Approach team. I think the book’s main strength is its multifaceted approach. Although sounds are very much central, high quality illustrations, photos and maps offer a wealth of other material for the keen birder. In the text, I have tried to provide a broad perspective, relating my own experiences and adventures, but also including some some history and a bit of science. The blend may be fairly eclectic, but I’m confident that it works. Petrels night and day is my first book, and if all goes well, I hope it will not be my last!

SAVE BIRDSONG FM!!

Becoming something of a celebrity in recent weeks, Birdsong

FM is a radio station available on DAB Digital Radio. With no

adverts or interruptions the station is essentially 18 hours a

day of birdsong which is currently replacing the now defunct

OneWord Station.

DigitalOne chairman, Quentin Howard, made the popular

recording in his garden back in 1991, unaware that his attempt

to record sounds for amateur theatre would later prove to be

a hit with digital listeners.

Over the past few weeks, Birdsong FM has grown to be hugely

popular, attracting the attention of the Telegraph (who spoke to

the Sound Approach's very own Mark Constantine on the issue),

as well as the BBC and developing it's own Facebook following.

Birdsong FM will be on the air until it is bought out by a more

permanent commercial broadcaster, which will be a shame to

the half million plus listeners who have tuned in. To show your

support go to Birdsong FM.
